Spinning

Phil Powell collection

After the reviews I published during the past year about the beautiful Phil Powell spindles, I have recently acquired two more: one from his shop and one from a destash. They didn’t disappoint! Again, the craftsmanship is marvelous, and the woods are exquisite. They feel so right in your hand!

As at one point all the Phil Powell spindles were nekkid, I decided to take a group picture of them. You can really see the difference in size, wood and spinning surface here.

From left to right: Hawaiian Koa with black spinel gem, Snakewood with rivoli crystal, Gaboon ebony with white moonstone, Snakewood with red spinel gem, Macassar ebony with purple haze rivoli crystal, Bocote with bright gold crystal.  The spindles with gems are more convenient if you are more relaxed about the position of the spindle (the ones with the crystal need to be more straight up), but they all spin wonderfully.
