Magic Yarn Ball

Some time ago, we did a Magic Yarn Ball swap in the NKS-group on Ravelry. The idea was to buy nice yarn and a bunch of little presents, and wrap the other presents in the yarn, so that you could start knitting the ball and every now and then you would be rewarded for your knitting with one of the presents. Great idea, and the swap was fun!

I got a Magic Yarn Ball of Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift, a yarn that is often used for knitting fair isle. My swap partner also added a pattern for a shawl, but after knitting a bit with the yarn, I decided that making a shawl was not going to be a good idea, because my skin is too sensitive for this yarn. The colour I got, Mist, was very beautiful, and after some thinking I decided to make something else: the Latvian Garden Baby Blanket. I would use some fleece fabric to line it, and then I would have a warm and soft lap blanket.

Of course I didn’t have any other colours of this yarn, so I had to order it. The online shop that sells it in The Netherlands didn’t have the colours I wanted, but they could order it from Shetland. I had to wait a while, and then they arrived, about a a week ago. I first finished the Just Batty Challenge and then I started knitting the blanket. Of course the blanket started with the other colours, but after knitting the hearts, I could finally start knitting from my Magic Yarn Ball!

The pattern is fun, and the yarn is great for colourwork. I’m really enjoying myself! I’m getting inspired as well, perhaps I will make another one of these blankets, with different motifs… and visit Trollenwol, where apparently they have a big, wall-covering cupboard full of different shades of this yarn. I really love playing with colours!
