Spinning

Just Batty Challenge

The Jenkins group is a great place for spinning challenges. I thoroughly enjoyed the Swap Challenge no. 2, and now there is another challenge: the Just Batty challenge.

Again, we will be spinning two singles, one selected by ourselves and one by our partner, but this time, the rules are a bit different. There’s an awesome shop on Etsy called Nunoco, and the owners, Candy and Lora, make the fluffiest, nicest batts in gorgeous colour combinations. So, for this challenge, we will all spin a pair of batts from their shop, and ply them together.

The fun doesn’t stop there, no, you don’t get to pick what you’re going to spin… at least, not entirely. All the participants had to submit their five favourite batt colourways in the thread. Then, the partners were assigned. The neat part: you get to choose one batt from the top five of your downstream partner to spin (both yourself and your downstream partner). Your upstream partner will do the same, so you don’t know which of your top five batts has been selected until you open your package. A recipe for fear of bad combinations, indeed, but we are brave, and history has proven that the strangest combinations can really look great together once they form a yarn.

My downstream partner was BreimuisLine, and her top five I chose Whisper, a beautiful batt in lilac and seafoam green. This was a bit of a risk, since that batt was also part of my own top five, but the other options were all warm colour combinations with some orange or yellow in it, not my best colours. And this would become something for me, I had already decided.

I got twins!

The Nunoco ladies worked very hard to get the packages out asap, in the right combinations, so, kudos to them! On April 1st, the challenge would begin. I received my package quite fast, and… yes, I got two similar batts, both were Whisper! I was very happy, because I really love, love this colour combination, with the tender seafoam green, the silvery lining, the hint of purple… so dreamy and pretty!

The Kuchulus are ready to spin!

I decided to spin these batts on my Kuchulu spindle, which is the smallest type I have. I wanted to create a lace yarn this time, so I am spinning very thin. This has the consequence that it also takes forever. Those batts are big, mkay? I started the spinning a bit later than April 1st, because I was still busy with the Spring Fling, so I really got started on my weekend away to Germany.

Spinning outside is the best, especially with a nice view!

Some other things popped up in between, so I didn’t have a lot of progress yet, but since yesterday I’m really in the flow and spinning like crazy. It’s so enjoyable to spin with Nunoco fibers!
