Spinning rainbow yarn

As my cobweb is still drying, I have continued plying yarn that I spun during the Tour de Fleece. I still had one cake of singles that I wanted to finish – but I was not sure if I wanted to make a 2- or a 3-ply. After doing the cobweb yesterday and the day before that, I was however largely inclined to do n-ply this time, also not to end up with more thin yarn (I have plenty…).

It was quite a large cake, but not as big as the undyed merino one. Only a 100 grams this time. So I n-plied on my wheel and it actually went quite fast. I really enjoyed moving through all the colour nuances and seeing how they would combine or blend together.

I filled up about half a large bobbin, and the yarn looked quite nice and even. There were many different colours in this fibre braid, but I kept them together a bit.

Time to skein!

I moved on to the niddy noddy to skein the yarn. This time I counted while winding (yesterday I didn’t want to take the risk that I would lose count somewhere halfway, but this skein seemed way more managable). The skein turned out to be 100 grams/540 meters. A light fingering, quite a nice quantity as well.

This final picture is still pre-washing, but I wanted to make a nice “finished” picture. I expect the yardage to become a bit less, but not too much. I’m already thinking projects (but it may be a while before I cast on)… brioche? Entrelac? Perhaps a felted bag? Choices, choices.

Oh, and if you’re curious, this was the original fibre braid (pic by FeltStudioUK, probably taken with strong flash):
