Spinning

Jenkins Swap Challenge nr. 2

I found out that participating in a challenge/SAL gives me extra inspiration, so I was eager to participate in the Jenkins Swap Challenge nr. 2. The idea is to select one of your 4 oz. fiber braids, divide it in half, send one half to your swap partner, and keep the other half. Someone will send you their extra half, and then you have to spin both and ply them together. That way, you are encouraged to step out of you comfort zone for a change, and to use a colour combination that is not as “safe” as you would normally choose.

I selected a pretty nightly colours BFL to use, and sent half to my swap partner. Then, I eagerly waited for my swap extra fiber to arrive. It took quite a long time, more than a month, but it finally arrived.

Bohemia Fibers Falkland

The fiber was a very bright and pretty green! I’d never spun with Falkland before, so that was a nice opportunity.

Mixed up, they look surprisingly good together

I decided to divide both rovings into smaller bits, and made rolags with my handcards.

Then, I started spinning. I decided to start with the green fiber. I tried to spin it more or less from light to dark, aiming for a slight gradient. I will do the same with the other fiber.

Two ounces of fiber on one Aegean

The first turtle is ready, and I’m now just getting started on the second one. I’m very curious how this will turn out!
